A senior priest of the African Church, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Reverend Richard Peters has described his state, Akwa Ibom, as a state owned by God where peace and righteousness thrive which should not be governed by a suspected cultist.

It could be recalled that in 2019, Akwa Ibom state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel criminalized cultism in the state.

The Senator representing Uyo Senatorial district and now governorship candidate, Young Progressives Party, Senator Bassey Akpan thereafter took the proscription personal and declared publicly of being a ‘cultist’ for Christ.

But Peters speaking in an interview on Wednesday in Uyo urged the people not to take the Senator’s proclamation for granted.

He said cultism in whatever guise or name is a threat to the democratic values which the people are already enjoying in the state.

The Cleric stressed that Akwa Ibom people will not go back to the dark days where cultism, intimidation, murder and insecurity were the order of the day urging the people to maintain the peace and sanity the present administration has returned since assumption of power by voting a God fearing man at the gubernatorial election.

“We are not ready to trade the future of our children with a man who is proud to announce being a cultist, is cultism a thing of honour?” He queried.

Peters who is also the Special Assistant to governor Emmanuel on Media noted that the Senator jailed for a criminal case and who lied to the court of suffering from serious case of diabetes and hypertension should not be given the mandate as he has the tendency to tell lies against his people for his selfish interest.

“To give someone who has a criminal case with EFCC, the mandate to rule is very risky. He told the Court that he is sick of hypertension and diabetes. But, now he is planning going on to campaign from ward to ward that means he misled the court that he had a serious case of hypertension just to secure a release. So for someone to tell such magnitude of lies just to get freedom should not be trusted with our resources.” He noted. Continue Reading
