Nationnewslead reports that The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to kick-start its nationwide membership registration, update and revalidation with the symbolic exercise holding Saturday in Daura, Katsina State.

The Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the party has also directed that there will be no membership registration and revalidation by proxy.

It said all new entrants and existing members must be physically present for the registration.

An updated copy of the National Registration Schedule/Timetable of the party, which The Nation obtained exclusively in Abuja yesterday, showed that a stakeholders’ meeting on the exercise will also hold tomorrow.

But the venue was not disclosed.

In continuation of the train-the-trainers’ workshop of members of the 36 States’ Registration Committee, which began in Abuja on Thursday, state/local government supervisors’ training is billed for February 1, while that of ward/polling unit supervisors will hold on February 2.

The registration proper will hold from February 9 to 23, while the sorting of registration details from ward registration centres will be forwarded to local government areas and the state secretariats between February 24 and 27.

Consideration of appeals/complaints from the registration will hold between February 28 and March 5, while the party will display membership register at all wards/local government offices and forward completed forms to the national secretariat between March 6 and 9.

The National Registration Committee, led by Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, will submit final reports for the consideration of the party’s Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) between March 10 and 15.

Also, the CECPC, on Thursday, started the distribution of registration materials to the states.

The exercise, which was carried out under tight security checks, was supervised by the National Secretary of the CECPC, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, alongside the party’s Director of Administration, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman, and Director of Organisation, Prof. Ussiju Medaner.

Declaring open the train-the-trainers’ workshop yesterday, Prof. Medaner told the participants: “There is no room for membership registration and revalidation by proxy. That is why we have paid attention to cultural peculiarities and possible restrictions in some parts of the country by ensuring that the composition of the membership registration officials comprises all gender.”

He added that the registration officers will be trained to ensure that the COVID-19 protocols are strictly adhered to during  the exercise.

The training was supported by the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

Also, APC Chairman in the 19 Northern states, Chief Letep Dabang, has said the party will have an authentic data base with proper registration of its members and pave the way for its victory in the 2023 general elections.

Dabang, who is also Plateau State APC Chairman, spoke while welcoming the chairmen of the Northern states to Jos, the state capital, to brainstorm on how to ensure the party’s victory in future polls.

“Our party is set to welcome new members into our growing fold and this exercise will be done at the various polling units across the country,” he said.
