Gunmen have killed the Councilor representing Achara Ward 2 in Okposi Community, Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi State, Mr. Ogbonnaya Ugwu, popularly known as SPACO.

It was gathered that Ugwu was killed on Saturday as he was returning from his shop, a drinking joint known in Okposi as ANGLE 90.

Sources in Okposi who confirmed the incident on Sunday to NIGERIAN TRIBUNE, said Ugwu was accosted by the gunmen around Okposi Court Area junction.

His words “the honourable Councilor was accosted while he was returning from his shop, a popular drinking joint in Okposi known as Angle 90. He was driving in his official vehicle, Toyota Corolla. They shot him inside the car, and he swarved the car into gutter. And they set his car ablaze with him inside, and left the scene.

“As i am talking to you now, Mgbom n’ Achara youths in Okposi are currently protesting over the incident” he said

Efforts to reach Police Public Relations Officer for Ebonyi Command, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, failed as her number could not be reach at the time of filing this report.

But the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and the campaign council of the Party’s Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidate, Professor Benard Odoh and Dr Nkata Chukwu, condemned murder of the Ward Councilor.

They made their feelings known in a statement signed by the Director Media and Publicity OdohZia campaign council Charles Otu On Sunday.

According to Otu, the Campaign council received with anguish the news of the gruesome murder of the Councilor representing Echara Ward2 in Okposi Community, Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi State, Mr Ogbonnaya Ugwu, popularly known as SPACO.

He noted that the deceased, Ugwu was a development-oriented and liberal minded community leader who was well respected across Okposi and beyond.

“We at Odohzia Ebonyi Campaign council strongly condemn this, yet another senseless killing of a vibrant Ebonyi youth. We recall and very sadly too that just a few weeks to the the last election, another youth, Mr. Ogbonnaya Agwu was also gunned down by yet to be identified gunmen in the same Court Area, Okposi Okwu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the State.

“While we sincerely sympathize with the family of the deceased, our campaign council charge the government whose primary responsibility remains the protection of lives and property in partnership with security agencies to unravel the killers of these citizens.

“No stone should be left unturned to apprehend and bring to book, this murderous gang that has been terrorizing Okposi, Ohaozara and the entire State.

“We have also consistently raised the alarm over the influx of ‘fake’ military and Police officers into the State which has heightened tension and anxiety among Ebonyians”. He said
