Armed bandits have stormed the Samaru and Bulunku areas of the Gusau metropolis in Zamfara state, killing a provision store manager, Ashiru Maigoma, and abducting his pregnant wife and neighbour.
The armed bandits, numbering in large groups, launched the attack in the early hours of Tuesday while the Muslim faithful were observing the famous congregational prayer known as Tahajjud in the state.
When contacted, the Zamfara state police command spokesperson, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident in the state.
According to him, the bandits stormed the Bulunku area around 2 am in an attempt to abduct Maigoma, but he resisted, leading the bandits to shoot him.

“They (bandits) already had their target, which was one Ashiru Maigoma. They entered his house to kidnap him, but he resisted the attempt, which resulted in them shooting him. They kidnapped his wife and his neighbor,” he said.
It was gathered that Zamfara state and the northwest at large have been under intense attack by armed bandits for some years.
Many of the bandit attacks occur in worship places, market areas, farms, as well as communities in their residences.
