Following last week’s devastating explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West, has advised citizens in the region to take interest in activities around them and be security conscious.
The Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Sanya Atofarati in a statement on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, while sympathized with the people of Oyo state over the fatal incident, commended the Governor, Seyi Makinde, for his commitment at providing succor to the victims of the incident.
The party reiterated the need for the citizens across the South-West states to support the efforts of the government at curtailing incidents leading to loss of lives and property by providing timely and accurate information to law enforcement agencies on suspicious activities in their localities.
Atofarati said, “While we identify and sympathize with the victims at this critical moment of their lives, and pray for repose of the lost souls, we also hope the public would see the incident as an eye opener to be more security conscious and report any activities that are capable of causing security breach.
“As a party we commiserate with the good people of Oyo state on the unfortunate incident while we commend the unprecedented and spontaneous response by the peoples governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who has continued to engage the public on developments since the explosion happened.”
The party expressed confidence in Governor Makinde’s capacity to work with the security authorities to bring to book the perpetrators of the illegal miners and stem the possible reoccurrence in the state.
“We sympathize with the families who lost their loved ones in the deadly incident and as we also pray that God grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“While we have confidence in the capacity of Governor Seyi Makinde and security authorities for a comprehensive investigation that would bring the perpetrators to book,” PDP said.
The opposition party also acknowledged the governor’s, “proactiveness in containing the effects on the residents whose properties were destroyed as a result of the explosion and providing temporary shelter for those rendered homeless, most especially, the spontaneous support of Medicare for the victims.”
