Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State are divided over the nomination of some members to serve on the board of Federal government parastatals.

Prominent members of the party alleged neglect in the deliberation to select some members who would serve on the board from Oyo State.

A letter was sent to the State APC Chairman from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), requesting the state leadership of APC to nominate nine names – two for chairmanship and seven for members of the Boards of parastatals, agencies, institutions, and government-owned companies.

The nominations were to be submitted by 5th July 2023, for consideration for appointment under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Some APC leaders claimed they were not carried along in the process. Hon. Amoo Taofeek Ayoola, a former member of the Ibadan South West Local government executive, addressed journalists on behalf of other APC leaders, stating that the majority of APC members were unaware of the nomination and selection process. He called for proper placement of Oyo State in the government and requested a Minister of their choice.

Ayoola added that the APC in Oyo State needs people of integrity and exemplary leadership to redeem the party’s fortunes.

He criticised the present list submitted to the Presidency, stating that the same people are continually replacing themselves and benefiting from the party’s collective efforts, while others who made minimal contributions are left out.

He urged stakeholders to come together and defend the party in the state, emphasizing the need for a leader who can bridge the gap and bring everyone together with international experience and scholastic background.

“We call for repositioning of the leadership of the party in the State to give us a sense of belonging in the party. If we had not known the letter from the SGF, we would have lost out. Only God knows many other things that have happened at the party.

Our body in the State will like to come to you for proper interaction with our leaders on the way forward in Oyo State.

We appeal to you for proper placement of Oyo State in this government because we need to be encouraged and well compensated. We are also well-equipped intellectually with a good understanding of central politics and governance.”
