Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed a businessman (pharmacist) identified as Mr. Henry Ejiogu Ogbuji in Imo State.
The young man was shot dead in the evening hours of Friday at Irete Autonomous Community of Owerri West Council Area of the state.
An eyewitness said the incident happened when the suspected kidnappers stormed the residential house of the abductee located at Obinwanne street in Umuohia Irete, Owerri West LGA, and abducted him.
Henry, the deceased had came back from his business, and heard that his elder brother, Mr. Sunny Ogbuji, who lives in Umueje Irete has been abducted.
On getting the wind of the ugly news, he decided to run after (chase) the kidnappers, along the road leading to the Owerri/Onitsha Expressway (Umungada junction).
According to information, when the fleeing abductors noticed that Henry was approaching very close to their vehicle that was carrying his elder brother, Mr. Sunny, the kidnappers turned and shot him on his chest and he died immediately, while his elder brother at that point in time escaped from the hands of his abductors.
Late Henry, until his death, was a pharmacist who sold drugs at Owerri Plaza, located at the capital city, and his corpse has been evaluated by the Police.
Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command’s PPRO, ASP Henry Okoye when contacted, confirmed the incident and said the command is on top of the matter.
He assured that the culprit would be apprehended to face the wrath of the law, adding that investigation is ongoing.
He equally disclosed that the lifeless body of the deceased has been deposited into the morgue of the Federal Medical Center,FMC, Owerri.
