In commemoration of the second year memorial of the #EndSARS protest, the Osun Civil Society has called on major stakeholders, protesters and victims of police brutality in Osun State to review the movement, it’s gains and misgivings, Nationnewslead reports.

The guest lecturer, Barr Ibrahim Lawal, who spoke on the topic ‘NIGERIA IS OURS TO DRIVE; A BETTER NARRATIVE”, said “Over time, instead of being listened to and supported to lead change, young people are often ignored and overlooked. What started in Nigeria as a peaceful protest against police brutality in October 2020, expanded into popular resistance against the country’s politicians, the government and corruption before spreading out to the streets of Nigeria.”

He spoke of the drawbacks of the #EndSARS movement which he said was majorly through lack of organized leadership.

On his part, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ismail Omipidan, said of the 36 states in Nigeria, only three states and the FCT compensated the victims of police brutality protest, saying Osun State was one.

A panel session through the insight of Omipidan, youth leaders, civil society leaders and activists was held with a view on the 20th October 2020 incidence and their various experiences, while issues ensuing from the #EndSARS protest in Osun, the attacks and the eventual panel set up by the government to look into cases of police brutality that have roused dark emotions amongst the victims and their recommendations were discussed.

Some of the victims of police brutality in the past few years, before and after the protest also recounted their tales of woe.
