Chelsea have said they want urgent talks with the UK government, after its owner Roman Abramovich was hit with sanctions on Thursday.

The Blues says they want to have discussions in a bid to “operate as normally as possible”.

Chelsea can still operate as a Premier League side under a special licence, but any potential sale is now on hold.

The Blues will not be allowed to sell any more tickets, meaning only season ticket holders can go to games for the foreseeable future.

Also, no player transfers or new contracts can be negotiated.

In the statement, Chelsea said they “intend to engage in discussions with the UK Government regarding the scope of the licence.

“This will include seeking permission for the licence to be amended in order to allow the club to operate as normal as possible.”

Under the terms of the current licence, Chelsea’s major sources of revenue have been cut off, while Abramovich has been prevented from selling the club. Continue Reading
