The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through its enforcement agency, the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), has dislodged over one thousand miscreants from the corridor of Inner Northern Parkway, off Abidjan Street in Wuse Zone 3.

Felix Obuah, the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, stated after the clean-up exercise on Wednesday that removing the individuals was part of the current administration’s commitment to beautifying the city. He emphasized that driving out the suspected criminals would help give the Federal Capital City the desired appearance.

Regarding the sustainability of the exercise, Obuah explained that the Council would prepare a memo for the FCT minister outlining the necessary steps to prevent the dislodged individuals from returning to the area.

Obuah said, “We should appreciate what the Minister of FCT is doing. Our aim is to beautify the city and make Abuja one of the cities that people can be proud of in the world. This place is a road corridor, and many people have taken over this place with shanties; most of these criminals have made this place their abode. So, we have decided to come here, clean up the area, reclaim it, and give Abuja the desired appearance.”

He further explained that the minister would not delay in taking action, stating, “The minister, as we all know, will immediately take action to ensure that this road is constructed, as he is doing with other roads in the FCT.”

“In our efforts to ensure that these miscreants do not return to deface the city, our intention is to relocate them to a place where they can stay permanently instead of returning to deface the city,” Obuah added.

“We will send a task force here to ensure that nobody builds a shanty in this environment anymore. We will make provisions for them so that they do not suffer undue hardship. Without immediate measures in place, they will go to other places and cause nuisance there too,” he said.

One of the victims and chairman of the area known as ‘Ungwan Lambu,’ Mohammed Musa, stated that they have been staying in the area for twenty-seven years, which he alleged was due to insecurity in their state of origin. He appreciated the government for allowing them to reside in the area and urged the FCT Administration to make provisions for them.

“Most of us are here because of insecurity in our state of origin. We need help,” Musa said.
