THE Secretary, Education Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Dr Danlami Hayyo, has said the current administration of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has accorded top priority to education and appealed to stakeholders to join hands in ensuring success of the sector.

He equally threatened to sanction principals and school administrators recording low enrolment of pupils and in public schools.

Hayyo spoke in Abuja when he led the management team of the secretariat for the 2024 second term resumption visitation and inspection to select schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to him, low enrolment of students would be taken to mean failure on the part of the school authorities.

He added that if teachers and other staffers were dedicated and commitment to their duties in providing quality training and care for students, there would be no reason parents would withdraw or not enrol their wards in public schools.

Hayyo, who however, expressed satisfaction with the level of turnout of students in the schools visited, said the administration would not take it likely with any school found to record low student turn out.

Some of the schools visited include Government Science and Technical College, GSTC, Area 3, Government Secondary School, Tundun-Wada, Junior Secondary School Wuse Zone 6, Glisten Group of Schools, Jahi.

He vowed to replace such school administrators saying, “I like to call the attention of the teachers to thier dedication to duties, because we’re not going to leave any stone unturned.

“If we identify any school where teachers are ready but the students are not present or the turnout of the students is low, definitely we are going to change the administration of the school. We are going to replace the leadership with a more capable hand for leadership.”

He maintained that “education is a priority to the current administration and it will ensure that it protects the sanctity of the sector.”

Earlier, the secretary and his team visited select schools where they expressed satisfaction over the turnout of students and teachers in both public and private schools on the first day of school resumption for second term of the 2023/2024 academic session.
