Management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State has proposed an international collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia ( UTM) in Academic, Research and Innovation programmes.
The Rector, Dr. Lateef Olatunji via a zoom meeting held on Monday 6th September, 2021 appreciated the Management of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for embracing the academic collaborations proposed by the Polytechnic and expressed the interest of the Polytechnic to make the international partnership a robust one.
While making reference to the collaborations that have taken off in the Polytechnic with institutions within and outside the country, the Rector affirmed that the Polytechnic was rated best affiliate institution in Nigeria by National Universities Commission ( NUC), adding that the Polytechnic has made remarkable achievements in academics, research and innovation which will make the international partnership to be successful with UTM.
The proposed collaboration between the Federal Polytechnic Offa and Universiti Technology Malaysia is premised on School of Environmental Studies that comprises of Quantity Surveying, Building Technology, Architectural Technology, Estate Management and Valuation, Urban & Regional Planning and Surveying and Geo-Informatics Departments.
Area of collaboration also include: schorlaship for the best Higher National Diploma (HND) graduating students to enable a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) programme.
Fellow/scholarship for Post Doctorate (PhD), Masters (MSC) programmes and sabbatical for its academic staff.
The Polytechnic equally proposed that Universiti Technology Malaysia, donate books and share e- resources, materials in the institute’s e-Library
The Polytechnic also seek to go into academic staff exchange programme with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia on capacity development, Entrepreneurship Development, which could be in the form of Research project execution, training and retraining workshops, seminars and conferences for both staff and students.
The Rector added that the proposed area of collaboration will be with effect from 2021/2022 Academic Session.
Prof. Niza Sarmin of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia ( UTM) in her reaction acknowledged the Management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa and expressed satisfaction in the giant strides of the Polytechnic in the area of academic, research and innovation as presented by the Rector.
The Polytechnic Director of Research and Innovation, Dr. (Mrs) Grace Korter thanked the Management of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for accepting the Polytechnic’s proposal and assured the Universiti of robust partnership that will benefit both staff and students of the Federal Polytechnic Offa.
