A fuel-laden tanker reportedly fell on the road on Sunday morning under the Ibafo pedestrian bridge, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) told Dailypost that the fallen tanker had caused a “serious traffic jam along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.”

FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, Florence Okpe, disclosed that the traffic outward from the Lagos section of the expressway stretched all the way to the long bridge, “due to the nature of the content” of the fallen tanker.

“The inward Lagos section is also having its share of the traffic jam. This is attributable to the activities of some impatient drivers who took to driving against the flow of traffic from all available exit points on the expressways,” Okpe stated.

She added that the corps is awaiting the arrival of an empty tanker for transloading of the content before an attempt can be made to remove the fallen tanker.

While assuring that FRSC operatives are on ground managing the traffic situation, Okpe added that Fire Service operatives are equally keeping the environment wet to prevent the ignition of fire.

“All hands are on deck,” Okpe said, even as she warned road users to apply caution so as to avert explosions.
