Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State inaugurated the dual 8.2-kilometer Agodi Gate, Old Ife Road, Alakia-Adegbayi Road and the Onipepeye Underpass Bridge in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday.

The project, awarded to KOPEK Construction Limited at the cost of N6.9 billion, was praised by Adeleke, who commended Governor Seyi Makinde for leading in infrastructural development in the South-West.

Adeleke emphasised the need for the region to strengthen ties and regional cooperation to regain its prominence in national and global infrastructural development.

He described Oyo State as a source of inspiration and revealed ongoing efforts in Osun State to implement multibillion-naira worth of infrastructure.

Before Adeleke inaugurated the project, Governor Seyi Makinde expressed his commitment to ensuring development across all zones.

He highlighted the project’s significance in reducing traffic congestion at Iwo Road, Ibadan, shortening the travel time from Agodi Gate to the Airport to just 15 minutes.

Makinde emphasised the importance of interconnectivity through roads for sustainable development, aiming to create cities and towns that residents, both at home and abroad, can be proud of.

Regarding the 2027 governorship race, Makinde discouraged early campaigning, urging for calm and stating that the best person to succeed him would be chosen by God.

Professor Dahud Sangodoyin, Oyo Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, affirmed that the dualization, along with street lighting and other necessary road infrastructure, was completed as scheduled.

Former chairman of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, urged the Makinde-led government to focus on fixing inner roads alongside connecting zones.

The event drew notable figures such as former Oyo governor Dr Omololu Olunloyo, Osun governor Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees Senator Adolphus Wabara, Oyo deputy governor Chief Bayo Lawal, Chief Judge of Oyo State Justice Iyabo Yerima, the wife of the former Oyo governor Mrs Mutiat Ladoja, Deputy Speaker of the Oyo Assembly Honourable Abiodun Fadeyi, elder statesman Chief Bode Amao, and Senator Biodun Olujimi, among others.
