The Governor of Osun State, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, has stated that the government alone cannot fund education. He has therefore, called on all stakeholders who share government’s vision of providing excellent and functional education for the youths for collaborate so that together they can set the school on the lane of sustainable development.

 

Oyetola stated these during the celebration of the 65th founder’s anniversary of Methodist High School, llesa, which was held at the weekend.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Wole Oyebamiji, implored everyone to sustain the tradition of giving back to the school, urging them to steer the students in that direction so that their objective of sustainably developing the school would be sustained.

According to him, “I invite you all as critical education stakeholders to collaborate with us to achieve this laudable objective.

 

“As you all know, the government alone cannot fund education. We are, therefore, inviting alumni associations, corporate organisations, patriotic and well-meaning individuals and groups, which share our vision of providing excellent and functional education for our youths to collaborate with us so that together we can set the school on the part of sustainable development.

“I commend your sense of unity and commitment to the ideal of enduring partnership with your alma mater. This is worthy of emulation by other old students’ associations in our various schools in the state that have yet to start off on this note.”

 

In his welcome address, the President of the Old Students Association, Mr. Dideolu Falobi, said this year’s anniversary is a celebration of what God has done in the life of the school and its major stakeholders, namely the government, the Methodist Mission, the society at large, the Old Students Association, the current students and teachers; old and new.

“It is also a celebration of the contributions of the Old Students Association to the holistic development of our alma mater to which we committed more than N200million to over the past six years.

 

“The highlights of the celebration include inauguration of projects such as the newly completed multi-purpose hall, the newly refurbished Biology Laboratory named Dr. Peter Ojo Astronomy Observatory Centre, and also a multimillion naira Olympic-size basketball and volleyball courts.”
