The Borno State Government says it will not compensate 11 mosques and four churches demolished for violating the State’s Land Use Act.

Adam Bukar Bababe, Executive Secretary of Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS), told newsmen in Maiduguri on Saturday that the decision was part of the resolution made by the Borno State Implementation Committee on Government White Paper on the Boko Haram insurgency in the State.

According to him, “No residential accommodation should be converted into a place of worship for the public by adherents of whichever faith without due compliance with the provision of any extant law.”

He further explained that the places of worship demolished violated the land and use act, adding that there is no compensation for such demolition.

The Executive Secretary stated that all the worship centres did not follow normal procedure.

He added that it doesn’t make sense for any government to demolish and later pay compensation.
