The minister of health and social welfare, Professor Ali Pate, and that of state, Dr Tunji Alausa, 36 state health commissioners and other stakeholders will be converging in Ekiti state next week for the 64th National Council on Health (NCH). 

The commissioner for health in Ekiti state and chairman of the forum of health commissioners in Nigeria, Dr Oyebanji Filani, who spoke with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Thursday said the conference will be held in the state from November 13 to 17, 2023. 

He disclosed that the conference with the theme, ‘ Building a Resilient and Inclusive Healthcare System for Healthy Nigeria’ would afford the over 800 participants of the council to discuss the nation’s health system and proffer ways of achieving universal health coverage. 

Filani added that at the annual conference, issues relating to the call for increase in the budgetary allocation to the health sector and inclusive policy formulation towards enhancing quality and affordable healthcare for the citizens.

According to him, “The Council represents a significant milestone in Nigeria’s shared commitment to advancing healthcare and improving the wellbeing of our communities as well as fostering the development of healthcare professionals and the improvement of healthcare infrastructure across the country. 

“The Council meets annually to discuss and address critical health issues, review progress and decisions that influence the direction of healthcare in the country. 

“Over the course of these five days over 800 participants are coming together to exchange ideas, share expertise, and chart a course for a healthier and more equitable future. 

“Permit me to say here that our dear state stands to gain from this national meeting as the meeting will stimulate local economy through tourism, increased revenue to business concerns and engendering meaningful cooperation and collaboration amongst participants. 

“The program will also build brand recognition, significant benefits to Ekiti State economy while the host city of Ado-Ekiti and other tourist attractions, hotels, parks and gardens in the state would enjoy increased national and global profile and growth during and after the event. 

“The state government through the support of our performing Governor, His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has made necessary arrangements regarding security, accommodation, transportation among others to ensure a seamless and smooth National Council in the state.” 

The commissioner called on the people of the state to remain peaceful and hospitable as the participants arrived the state for the conference, expressing optimism that the summit would in no small measure help in improving the level of healthcare system in the country.
