David Adedeji Adeleke, also known as Davido, a singer, songwriter, and record producer, explained in an interview how he started his music career at 15 years old.

Davido, in an interview with Storiesvk, disclosed that he began making music in his room without his dad’s consent.

“I had a studio in my house, my dad didn’t know. He stays upstairs; we have like 20-something rooms. I was on the ground floor, he is at the top. He goes straight to his room; once he comes back from work, he goes through the elevator to his room. He never heard the studio.”

He further explained that he continued his education in America after high school, specifically in Tennessee, but left because he was uncomfortable, being one of the few Black students in the college.

“After my high school, I moved to America for college. I first went to Tennessee; it was like a Christian university, and I was like the only African in the whole place, so I couldn’t stay there because I was not just feeling it. I was moved to Alabama because my dad never wanted me to go to Atlanta because of the social life. Unknown to him, he did me a great favor.”

My dad moved me to Alabama, two hours away. He didn’t want me to stay in Atlanta because he thought I would be distracted because of the social life there. So he took me to Alabama, not knowing that’s where the problem would start.

“Alabama was music-inclined and had the best of choristers, but my dad never let me join. I got to know a student had a studio in the hostel; he was staying above my room. I got to his space, asked about the studio, and he told me it would cost $1000. I paid it off, took over the studio, and started recording by myself with the help of YouTube.”

“I discovered that there was a mini studio for a student. I asked him how much for all of his studio, he replied $1000, and I paid it off. I took everything, and I was like just teach me how to record myself, and I will find my way. By this time, I was like 15/16 years.”

“I started producing, got tutorials from YouTube, and I mastered recording myself, but my dad never knew all of this.”

All my friends back home in Nigeria were already making names for themselves, so I was like I have to go back home. I decided one day, and I moved back to Nigeria.

” I left school and moved back to Nigeria without my parents knowing”
