Nationnewslead report that The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has called upon the Osun State House of Assembly to launch an investigation into the process behind the extension of the service year of Mr. Samuel Ayanleye Aina, the Head of Service. This call was made through a letter signed by CDHR’s Chairman, Comrade Emanuel Olowu, and submitted to the office of the Speaker, Rt. Hon Wale Egbedun, dated 04/03/2024. The letter, obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, highlights concerns over Governor Ademola Adeleke’s approval of the extension, which was issued via a letter dated 04/12/2023.

According to Olowu, the extension of the service year for retiring public officers contradicts Public Service Rule 020810 and may signify a breach of Section 4 – Serious Misconduct 0304029 (XI), reflecting potential corruption within the Osun State Public Service. The letter emphasizes the alleged attempt by Mr. Aina and outgoing Accountant General, Mr. Rasheed Olalere Alabi, to circumvent the Public Service Rule, generating controversies within the state.

Furthermore, the letter points out discrepancies in the timing of the extension’s announcement, with public knowledge of the approval coming a month after its issuance. This delay, according to CDHR, raises questions about transparency and adherence to due process. The organization expresses concern that such extensions, if unchecked, could undermine the integrity of the Osun Public Service, paving the way for subversion, career irregularities, corruption, and nepotism.

CDHR’s demands include a thorough investigation by the House of Assembly into Governor Adeleke’s alleged disregard for Public Service Rules, the delay in retirement submissions by the Accountant General and other Permanent Secretaries, and a formal denial of any plans to extend the service of retiring officers. Additionally, the group calls for the withdrawal, not reduction, of the three-year extension granted to Mr. Ayanleye Aina, in the interest of upholding the rule of law and accountability.

In conclusion, CDHR emphasizes the need for swift action to preserve the integrity of the Osun State Civil Service and to prevent a state of misrule.
