The Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has ruled in a divorce suit brought before it by a man, Saheed against his wife, Sekinat, on the grounds of lack of love, constant denial of s3x and wasteful habit.

Saheed stated that Sekinat was too cold for comfort.

According to him, she never showed any interest in his welfare and constantly denied him s3x.

Saheed, in addition, said that the few times Sekinat agreed on s3x, she insisted he used condom which to him was absurd.

The plaintiff further added that the defendant, despite being mindful of the tight economy being witnessed in the country, was in the habit of cooking food in excess and throwing away the remaining after eating to her fill.

Saheed said his relationship with Sekinat has turned sour and that peace had deserted their home as a result of Sakirat irrational behaviour.

He, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve their union.

Sekinat agreed to divorce and pleaded for the custody of their children, whom she stated he never displayed any responsibility towards or showed any care.

Saheed, giving his testimony, said, “I have studied Sekinat for the few years we have been married, and it is obvious that she does not love me.

“My wife treats me with disdain and pours insults on me.

“We fight almost all the time because she ignores her duties in the home and, more importantly, towards me.

“Sekinat does not look after my welfare and is not interested in my wellbeing.

“She cares less about my appearance and what I eat.

“My lord, my wife denies me s3x.

“I always made her understand that having sex with her is my right, but she has refused to be submissive.

“Sekinat would demand that I used condom the few times she agreed that I had my way, but I would refuse.

“I always tell her I believe in the use of condom, but not with my wife.

“We would end up fighting after her resistance.

“My wife frustrates me in this regard, and I am tired of her.

“Sekinat fails to be reasonable despite the tough time we are going through in the country.

“She wastes my resources and throws food away after eating to her fill.

“I often told her to cook the quantity we could finish at a time, but she would prepare food as if we were throwing a party.

“Her irresponsible act regularly leaves me with an empty pocket before the month runs out.

“My lord, my marriage to my wife has turned a mess.

“I do not want to stay in it any longer.

“I am tired and want divorce.”

Sekinat responding said, “I am also not ready to stay a minute longer in our wedlock because I am not happy married to him.

“Saheed is unkind and a brute.

“He regularly shirks his responsibility towards me and our children and is fond of giving excuses.

“I do all in my power to cover his lapses in the home. I feed the home and pay our children’s school fees, but all he does is beat me.

“He would come demanding for s3x after neglecting us, and I always refuse him.

“He gets irate anytime I denied him s3x and would beat me to a pulp.

“He once attempted to strangle me for denying him s3x.

“We could have killed each other one night when I got frustrated and drew a knife at him after he had beaten me. He also went for a knife.

“My lord, I pray for the custody of our children while he is made responsible for their upkeep.”

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, giving her judgment, stated that it was obvious that their relationship had broken down irretrievably.

She added that since both parties had acceded to divorce, the court had no other choice than to do likewise.

Akintayo, therefore, dissolved their union and granted the defendant custody of their children, while the plaintiff was ordered to be responsible for their welfare.

Both were advised to maintain peace.
