A new set of officers to pilot the affairs of Ijagbo Descendants Union (IDU), Ijagbo, Kwara State for the next four years were today elected into the National Executive Council of the union. The elections took place as part of this year’s Annual General Meeting which took place at Olora Hall in the town.

Chief Agboola Oyawoye, a seasoned administrator, Asiwaju of Ijagbo, former Commissioner for Finance and former Secretary to the Government of Kwara State was re-elected as the National President.

Others elected are Alhaji Tajudeen Afolabi, current Chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, The Federal Polytechnic Offa Chapter as 1st National President (Home), Mr. Ebenezer Abimbola Olalere, 2nd National Vice President (North), Alhaji AbdulWahab Lawal, National Vice President (Lagos Zone).
Mr. Emmanuel Fatola was elected the National Secretary and Mr Layi Afolayan, Assistant National Secretary. Hon Kamal Fagbemi, former member of Kwara State Hose of Assembly representing Oke Ogun Constituency was elected National Legal Adviser and Mr. Gabriel Afolayan was elected the National Treasurer.

 

 

Also elected is Wole Alawode, former Head of Public Relations and Protocol, and Current Head of Department Mass Communication, The Federal Polytechnic Offa who was elected the National Public Relations Officer while Alhaji Bashir Shittu was elected National Chief Whip.
Also elected are Mallam Tajudeen Alabi, National Financial Secretary; Mr. Tajudeen Alawode, National Auditor, Hon. Shegun Faleye, National Social Secretary and Mrs. Abosede Dipe, National Ex-Officio.

The Head of Electoral Team that conducted the election Chief Simon Kolawole Adegoke commended the atmosphere of peace within which the exercise was conducted and urged the elected officials to do their best to ensure peace progress and development in Ijagbo.

In his acceptance speech, on behalf of other Executive Committee Members, Chief Agboola Oyawoye expressed appreciation to Ijagbo Community for the confidence reposed in the new team. He noted that inadequacies of the past will be rectified and all the efforts required for rapid progress, peace and transformation of Ijagbo community will be put in place by the new Exco. He solicited the support of all and sundry and urged citizens and residents of Ijagbo town cooperate with the Exco on all the programmes that will soon be put in place. He promised that his team will hit the ground running and hold an inaugural meeting within the next two weeks.

 

 

Earlier, the Kwara State Commissioner for Communication, Mrs. Bosede Buraimoh, who was physically in attendance at the AGM commended the people of Ijagbo for the commitment to the town. She pledged the support of Kwara State Government for the programmes and aspiration of the people of the town. The Olora of Ijagbo High Chief Mudashiru Ajiboye, who spoke on behalf of Onijagbo of Ijagbo, Hs Royal Highness Oba Slawudeen Olagunju Adeyee solicited a deliberate programme to uplift indigenes of the town in various spheres of human endeavour so that they can contribute meaningfully to the development of the town.
