Thousands of residents and indigenes of Iloko-Ijesa, Osun State on Monday came out in colourful outfits and costumes in celebration of this year’s Asa Cultural Festival in the community.
Various cultural groups displayed their indigenous dances to the delight of visitors and dignitaries, including royal fathers from Osun State.
Iloko-Ijesa, a town which prides itself as the small Jerusalem in Osun State celebrated this year’s Àsà day Festival with pomp and ceremony. It was the first to be celebrated since the new Owaloko, Oba Akeem Olusayo Ogungbangbe Ilufemiloye 1 Ajagbusi Ekun VI ascended the throne.
The festival known in local parlance as Àsà day had been celebrated some years back but this year’s edition was taken to a higher pedestal as it was marked elaborately.
Oba Akeem and his subjects had every reason to roll out the drums because his reign has witnessed different projects by himself.
The major feature of the ceremony was the homage paid by different association such as: Egbé Ode, Obìnrin Ìlú, Omo Ìlú, Cultural Groups, King ’s Men and other members serving in the community.
The community ladies who decorated themselves with beads, stole the show with their dexterous dance steps to which the Owaloko applauded. Their performance also drew a thunderous applause from the crowd.
