The two-day warning strike embarked upon by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) which began on Tuesday has begun to take its tolls on the sections of Imo economy.

While business activities have plummeted with most of the major markets being scanty with low patronage, movement of vehicles, commercial motorcycles, filling stations, mobile food vendors, popular fast foods centres and eatery joints have all cried out, lamenting and counting their losses.

Our Correspondent, who monitored the situation within the Owerri capital city and its environs reports that such usually busy roads as Douglas, Wethedral, Royce, Tetlow, and Onitsha and Port Harcourt road witnessed few vehicles just as the normal heavy ques on filling stations have since disappeared.

A foodstuff trader who simply gave his name as Uchena told our correspondent that he had not made any sale because of lack of customers which he attributed to the NLC warning strike.

In the same vein, an operator of the intra-city bus, ‘Imo City Transport’, said that he had been rendered idle by the warning strike, stating that commercial vehicle driving was his only means of livelihood.

Further investigation also revealed that business centres and artisans had equally not been spared by the ugly situation, more so as electricity supply by the EEDC had been put on hold, thus compelling them to operate with fuel which they procure at high price.

During a visit to both the state and Federal secretariats in Owerri, our reporter observed the effect of the strike as the premises were almost empty with few workers were seen around.
