The lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi popularly known as Irekandu has disclosed his plans to distribute scholarships, WAEC forms and learning aids to students.

This was contained in a press statement titled “Education: A passport to Freedom and Liberty” released on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, by the young lawmaker and made available to journalists.

Adeyemi also decried the poor state of schools, low participation in education by young boys and girls in rural communities as a result of insecurity among others.

The architect while commemorating ‘International Education Day’ called on government at all levels, elites and stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of education and strive to make it qualitative, affordable and consciously available to the people.

‘A lot of lads want to go to school but they have no access to learning aids. Some parents lack the financial strength to educate their children. Most students are now drop-outs because they could not pay for external examinations or tuition fees. This list is long and it must be collectively tackled by all’, Irekandu added.

According to the Ibokun-born politician, he said, we must tackle the menace drawing back the wheel of progress of Education and that is what he has been doing in his own little ways for the good people of Obokun State Constituency.

‘We set up a team to scout, gather and examine students. We shortlisted the best and those who passed our screening tests. We are giving scholarships to some, WAEC forms to serious ones whose parents are financially incapacitated. We re-enrolled drop-outs and provide learning aids to students and schools in need. This scheme I see as one of our greatest investments in service, Adeyemi added.

While appreciating teachers and educational administrators for their services and determination to make students excel, Hon. Adeyemi appealed to parents to make the efforts of teachers worthwhile by being partners in progress.

Truly, the economy of the country is in bad shape and its effect on businesses especially on the downtrodden is worse. Inflations have made the sufferings of the poor worse. Yet parents owe it a duty to strive for the betterment of their children. They must be ready to work closely with teachers and institutions to make it easy for their wards, he added.

Speaking on the proposed event slated to hold on Wednesday, January 26th at Ibokun Town Hall, Hon. Adeyemi said the selection of beneficiaries of WAEC forms and scholarships was done strictly on merit.

He also stated that examination was conducted for WAEC candidates and the out of school children were selected based on recommendations by their respective school teachers.

Irekandu also added that he can not wait to meet all the beneficiaries on Wednesday for the first time.
