Justice Ayo Oyebiyi of Osun State High Court, Osogbo on Wednesday slammed N6 million against the police over violation of fundamental human rights.

 

Two applicants Yusuf Adepoju and Muddathir Kewdirorun had filed a suit against the police following invasion into their private homes by the men of Nigeria police around 3 AM on November 16th 2021.

 

Justice Oyebiyi delivering judgement said the applicants had proved their case against the police beyond reasonable doubt in suit number HOS/ M. 157/ 2021 and ordered that the respondent pay a compensation fee of N6 million to the applicants for gross abuse of their rights.

The judge held that infringing on the fundamental rights of innocent civilians was against the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 as amended.

 

He explained that the applicant’s privacy and their families were threatened by the police for carrying out such raid at the late hours of the night. Continue Reading
