Jigawa Governor Malam Umar Namadi has lamented about the rising kidnappings and expressed concern about security deterioration in the state.

In his speech, the governor complained while receiving the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahamadu Abdullahi, at Government House Dutse. When Mr Abdullahi paid him a courtesy visit, the governor said, “Within the last two weeks, I wasn’t happy with the security situation in the state where two people were kidnapped in one week in Jigawa state.”

The governor explained, “The Commissioner of Police, I’m sure your people must have briefed you because we witnessed a situation where two people within one week were kidnapped. That is unacceptable.”

Malam Umar Namadi maintained that “we need to work together to ensure that it would be prevented and is no longer happening in Jigawa state.”

“The armed robbery cases are growing; we must stamp them out. Your officers must get out and work hard locally and at the state headquarters. Security is everybody’s business; as a government, we would do all it takes to give you all the necessary support to ensure you succeed in your assignment.”

He said that the ugly development happened just a few days after the redeployment of the immediate past Commissioner of Police in the state, who was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

Namadi, however, said that his administration was ready to assist the new Commissioner of Police to do the needful, even if it meant fishing out the bad eggs in the command and influencing their redeployment.

He also said that the lack of synergy between the security agencies in the state was a thing of concern to his administration, insisting that the situation had to be changed.

The governor, therefore, urged the police chief to ensure effective coordination among the security agencies in the state to restore the security lapses.

He, however, assured the police chief that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support, as it is in the interest of the people and the nation at large.

Namadi urged the police chief to develop security strategies to help the state achieve the desired goals of restoring peace and security.

Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ahamadu Abdullahi, promised to build on the achievements of his predecessor to sustain the high level of security being enjoyed in many parts of the state.

The new Commissioner of Police said that the state command plans to introduce new strategies in tackling crime and criminality while working with other security agencies to ensure amicable synergy between them toward achieving a peaceful environment in the state.

He said, “On my own part, together with experience and a dedicated management team, I assure you that your excellence and already established synergy and cooperation would be sustained and improved.”

Mr Abdullahi noted, “we will review the crime-fighting strategies with a view to imposing new ideas and strategies to improve from the existing ones to make the state safer for economic, social, and political developments.”

He told the governor that on his assumption into office last Monday, “One week now, some of the achievements recorded so far by the command under my leadership include arresting three suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of a businessman at Kwaimawa village in Dutse local government, the arrest of arms manufacturers at Dutse Kwari in Ringim local government area, and the arrest of three suspected motor vehicle thieves.”

“Others include arresting five motorcycle thieves in Dutse and Kazaure, and arresting three mobile phone thieves. The command recovered three fabricated local firearms, three motor vehicles, four motorcycles, seven Android handsets, 28 cows, and four sheep.”

He expressed his appreciation to the governor for his support and commitment to the security agencies in the state as his predecessor briefed him.
