The wife of the Jigawa State governor, Hajiya Hadiza Namadi, donated a total sum of N25 million as cash assistance and offered free medical check-ups to 250 elderly individuals across the 27 local government areas of the state.

Each elderly person received the sum of N100,000 cash under the initiative led by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Ahmed Tinubu, to mitigate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

During the presentation of the cash assistance to the beneficiaries, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi mentioned that the distribution of N100,000 to each of the 250 elderly persons aged 65 years and above was an initiative implemented under the RHIEES by the Wife of the President, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.

She explained that this gesture aimed to alleviate the economic challenges and suffering faced by elderly individuals.

The governor’s wife also organised free medical check-ups for the beneficiaries at the venue.

“To complement the efforts of Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, I’ve arranged for medical personnel to provide free medical services, including checkups, diagnosis, and treatment of health issues specifically affecting elderly individuals,” she stated.

According to her, the state government needs to establish a comprehensive database to record the details of all elderly people in the state. Namadi mentioned that this step would enable the state government to monitor their welfare and provide the necessary support and assistance, aiming to introduce more initiatives similar to the RHIEES.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Women and Social Development, Hajiya Hadiza Abdulwahab, praised the president’s wife for her vision and dedication to improving the lives of elderly individuals.

Abdulwahab expressed that this gesture would significantly contribute to meeting the basic needs of the elderly beneficiaries. She lauded Governor Umar Namadi and his wife’s efforts in prioritising the welfare of the state’s citizens, encouraging other well-meaning individuals to emulate and contribute towards enhancing the welfare of the elderly in society.

“We must ensure that nobody, especially the vulnerable and those in need of support, is left behind,” the commissioner emphasised.

She advised the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously.

Some of the beneficiaries, Adama Muhammad and Bura Baduku expressed their appreciation to the state and federal governments for their generous gestures.
