Jigawa state government has established five special courts to trial the violators of the environmental and sanitation laws in the state, as governor Malam Umar Namadi led executives and legislative members for monthly environmental sanitation.

This was disclosed by the state’s commissioner for environment, Dr. Nura Ibrahim Dandoka, while fielding questions to newsmen during the monthly environment sanitation exercise in Dutse, the state capital.

He said the court aims at enforcing environmental and sanitation laws in the state.

Dr Nura Ibrahim Dandoka explained that the courts are placed at the headquarters of the five emirate councils.

According to the state monthly environment sanitation law, there was restricted movement, including all economic and social activities, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for every householder and member of the family to clean and sanitise their environment on every last Saturday.

According to him, “During these hours, people are expected to engage in sanitising their environment to keep Jigawa State clean, and for anyone found violating the order, there are mobile courts established to trial the offenders.”.

“Currently, all 27 local government areas of the state are directed to mobilise community organisations, self-help groups, and the general public to join the exercise, while all necessary support will be given from the state government for achieving the desired goals,” the commissioner declared.

He reiterated the commitment of his ministry to promote environmental protection in all aspects of sustainable development.

Reports from the state indicated that Governor Malam Umar Namadi has led members of the state executive council, lawmakers, civil servants, and political appointees to a monthly environmental sanitation exercise around Dutse capital over the weekend.

The governor, who fully participated in cleaning the city, said the state government policy on monthly environmental sanitation is aimed at promoting personal and environmental hygiene in the state.

He explained that upholding the culture of personal and environmental hygiene is one of the most effective and sustainable precautionary measures against the spread of diseases and promoting public health.

The governor then directed the state ministry of environmental, judicial, and security agencies to ensure maximum enforcement of the monthly sanitation exercise by punishing anyone found violating the law.
