Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on the state legislature to expedite actions for the passage of the 2024 budget, saying this will pave the way for the execution of government programmes, policies, and projects for the overall development of the state.
Yusuf stated this on Friday while declaring open a three-day retreat for the honourable members of the State House of Assembly and management staff in Abuja
The Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, further stressed that the executive arm of government would continue to identify with the State House of Assembly on all matters related to the development of the state by constitutional provisions.
He then thumbs up the State House of Assembly in delivering their mandate as legislators
He also called on both the members of the House and management staff to use what they are going to learn for the development of the House and the State
According to a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary, Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Uba Abdullahi, in a copy made available on Friday to the press in Kano, “The theme of the retreat is “Enhancing good governance through effective lawmaking and oversights.”
Earlier, the Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Ismail Falgore, said on their part, as a law-making body, they will continue to support and cooperate with the state government in bringing out laws that will positively improve the living standard and socioeconomic well-being of the general population of the state.
He also assured that the House would expedite actions for speedy passage of the 2024 budget, which will allow the state government to continue embarking on developmental projects, programmes, and policies.
Falgore therefore called on the participants to maintain a high level of concentration and participation throughout the presentations that will follow so as to practically apply what they learned in the course of undertaking their constitutional responsibilities.
He also commended Governor Yusuf for sponsoring the retreat, which he said would go a long way in strengthening the roles of the legislators for optimal output.
While making remarks, the chief consultant, Professor Abdullahi S. Danwanka, said the retreat came at the right time considering the dynamics of politics in Kano and the need to refresh the honourable members on their constitutional responsibilities in lawmaking, representations, and oversight functions.
He commended the House for its initiatives in human resource development for the actualization of House objectives.
