Some Nigerians have taken to social media to react differently to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broadcast on the occasion of the country’s 63rd independence.

To commemorate Nigeria’s independence from the British colonial masters, Tinubu in his first independence day broadcast as Nigeria’s president, on Sunday, urged Nigerians to remain optimistic, saying that his federal government-led administration remained committed to reforming the country for good.

He also announced provisional wage increments of an additional 25,000 naira monthly for the average low-grade workers for the next six months.

The broadcast has, however, continued to stir mixed reactions from netizens who took to the popular social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to react to the broadcast.

While some berate the president over his speech, saying it lacks substance, others were full of praise for Tinubu.

Reacting to the broadcast, particularly the provisional increments of 25,000 for average low-grade workers on X (formerly Twitter), a user @healthyhairNG tweeted, “Which of his promises has he fulfilled? Have you received 8k, palliative nko e reach you? Believe Pablo Ecowas at your own risk.”

Another user, @Eliotcute wrote, “Why not with immediate effect?And in this new Nigeria what will 25,000 do for anyone?

@Uzogbuagu wrote, “Nonsense!

You said you’d hit the ground running from day 1. Rather you brought hardship upon the people. Please resign.”

“Waste of speech. He will still not do anything.” @Zobadegreat opined.

In a sharp contrast, @A_QowiyyBadmus praised the content of the President’s broadcast to the nation. He wrote, “Beautiful speech, full of hope and assurance.

May you succeed sir.”

Another user @autocra17 tweeted, “Tinubu is the best President in the history of Nigeria 🇳🇬 kudos to him.”

@Ohis_ wrote, “Our President , God bless you and God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬.”
