Lagos landlord, Alhaji Ahmed Olorunnimbe, is seeking N5million from the police for alleged favouritism and breach of his family’s rights in land disputes on Bashorun Street, Wright Estate, Yaba, Lagos
Olorunimbe made the claims in his suit at the Federal High Court in Lagos, marked FHC/L/CS/1023/2021.
He claimed through his counsel, Mr Chijioke Chinewubeze, that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and three others allegedly breached his fundamental rights.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Inspector Adeleke and Supol Odion, all of Force CID, Annex, Alagbon-Ikoyi, Lagos, are the second, third and fourth respondents in the suit.
According to the claimant’s affidavit, the respondents “aided some people” who were trying to grab a parcel of land belonging to his family, but which it lawfully sold before their involvement.
He claimed that the police invited, arrested and “unlawfully” detained him and some of his family members at the instance of the said persons. His travails, he explained, has been on since June 2021.
The claimant alleged that he and his family members were being threatened by the persons with the police’s knowledge, adding that they now lived in fear and were no longer “able to move freely and do our businesses.”
He prayed the court for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the respondents from, according to him, further threatening, intimidating, arresting and detaining him for no cause, particularly “for any purported or alleged civil wrong.” No date has been fixed for hearing of the matter and the respondents are yet to file a response.
