The committee sought to establish collaboration with LASTMA to improve traffic management, orderliness, and the safety of road users, particularly in the Apapa/Tin-Can logistics corridors. Created by the Lagos State Government, the Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee, led by Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo, is a vital link between the government and the maritime trucking community. Its role includes implementing government policies to facilitate transportation businesses in the state.

The committee was also formed to address challenges such as the presence of street urchins, commonly known as ‘area boys,’ and to tackle issues related to multiple tickets imposed on truckers by various road transport unions, local governments, and non-state actors.

During the meeting, the GM of LASTMA congratulated Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo and the committee members on their appointments. He expressed LASTMA’s readiness to collaborate with the committee to advance the Lagos State Government THEMES + Agenda, specifically in the realm of transportation for economic growth and the development of Lagos State.

The GM advised the committee to educate drivers about the importance of consistently complying with traffic rules and regulations and urged them to avoid confrontations with LASTMA operatives. He also cautioned against indiscriminate truck parking, causing traffic obstructions along the Apapa/Tin-Can Ports corridors for the sake of traffic flow and orderliness.

In response, Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo appreciated the hospitality of the LASTMA GM and pledged the committee’s unwavering support to LASTMA. He affirmed their commitment to working together to achieve LASTMA’s mandate of promoting smooth traffic flow in Lagos State without discord and hostility.
