Soludo's govt will end in 2025, Labour Party replies APGA

In a scathing rebuke, the Labour Party, led by Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, has denounced the Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) appointment of a Caretaker Committee for the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT). Terming the move as illegal and unconstitutional, the party warned of potential upheaval if such actions persist unchecked.

The Labour Party expressed concern over former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi’s remarks regarding his absence from a convention organized by his ally Bar Julius Abure. Obi cited inadequate consultation with party stakeholders as his reason for non-participation, sparking controversy within party ranks.

Accusing Peter Obi of harboring ulterior motives to manipulate the Labour Party for personal gain, the party highlighted his divisive rhetoric favoring ethnic interests over the party’s integrity. Such sentiments, according to the party, run counter to the ideals of national unity and democracy.

Furthermore, the Labour Party called upon the Nigeria Labour Congress to vacate the LP national Secretariat, cautioning against monopolization of power by any individual or group within the labor movement.

Vowing to pursue legal recourse against what it deems as unlawful occupation of its premises, the party emphasized its autonomy under Nigerian law, distinct from the regulatory authority of the NLC.

Addressing the media in Abeokuta, the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, underscored the party’s adherence to legal frameworks governing political entities in Nigeria. He stressed the party’s status as a corporate entity under the purview of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), not the NLC.

Arabambi denounced the NLC’s alleged interference in the party’s internal affairs as tantamount to political insurrection, challenging the NLC President’s understanding of both labor laws and democratic principles.

He refuted claims of an unauthorized Board of Trustees appointment, asserting that such decisions rest solely with the National Executive Council of the Labour Party.

Furthermore, Arabambi clarified the role of the BoT, emphasizing its advisory capacity rather than executive authority. He urged adherence to due process and respect for party structures to maintain democratic norms within the Labour Party.

In conclusion, Arabambi urged relevant government authorities to intervene and prevent further escalation of tensions, citing the potential for destabilizing Nigeria’s democratic fabric.
