In a startling revelation, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), has accused Toyin Babalola, the retired Acting Director of Legal Affairs for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), of soliciting a hefty bribe of $150,000.

Dr. Arabambi made these allegations during a press conference held earlier today at the LP headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, Babalola approached the party with the demand for the bribe in exchange for favorable treatment in an undisclosed electoral matter.

“Mr. Toyin Babalola, a retired acting Director of Legal for INEC, approached us with a brazen request for $150,000,” stated Dr. Arabambi. “He made it clear that the payment was necessary for us to receive favorable consideration in an upcoming electoral issue.”

The LP Publicity Secretary further emphasized that the party vehemently rejects such unethical behavior and refuses to engage in any form of corrupt practices.

“We are a party that upholds integrity and transparency in all our dealings,” Dr. Arabambi asserted. “We categorically denounce any attempts to subvert the democratic process through bribery or coercion.”

In response to these allegations, Toyin Babalola has yet to make a public statement. However, there are growing calls for an official investigation into the matter to ascertain the veracity of Dr. Arabambi’s claims and to hold accountable any individuals found guilty of wrongdoing.

This revelation has sparked widespread concern about the integrity of electoral processes and the need for robust measures to safeguard against corruption within regulatory bodies such as INEC.

The Labour Party has vowed to cooperate fully with any investigations and has called upon relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to address this matter and ensure the sanctity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
