Mixed reactions trail Tinubu’s statement to Qatari investors

Nigerians have started to react differently to the statement made by President Tinubu to Qatari investors where he told the captains to report any fraudulent act made by any government officials in their business endeavors. 

Tribune Online reports that President Bola Tinubu while speaking at the Nigeria-Qatar Business and Investment Forum in Doha instructed the Qatar captains to avoid giving bribes to any Nigerian  and if any is requested or taken from them, they should make a report. 

He added that they shouldn’t allow their perception about Nigeria to be a stumbling block in their desire to invest. 

However, in a report generated by Tribune Online across our social media platforms, this statement made by President Bola Tinubu has generated different reactions. 

While the President has received positive responses from Nigerians as regards the statement, it has also garnered a lot of criticism with Netizens saying it painted Nigeria as a corrupt country.

Nigerians were asked to share their thoughts about the statement made by the President, here is what they have to say: 

A Facebook user @Buter Terkimbi, nodded in agreement with the President’s statement saying, “Very much appropriate and I will must suggest it has a strong political will. Enough is enough.”

@Engr Sanni Ibrahim opined, “Yes 👍💯% appropriate, the statement is to build confidence in the investor relations and NIGERIANS.”

“Yes. The Qataris must have expressed concerns about their previous investment attempts marred with bribe requests”, @Oladimeji Taiwo commented.

However, other Nigerians expressed their displeasure towards the statement via their social media platforms. 

@Okoni Nicholas, a Facebook user commentedZ, “Image maker of a country demarketing same country before the whole world is very bad. I personally called it reckless and hate statement by the president to Nigerians. Choice of words by leaders matter in any public gathering. If Mr. President is a representative of one company by he should have been fire by now, but, this is Nigeria where all forms impunity take place without punishment.”

 

@Nwaogu Julius also expresses his displeasure saying, “He has simply announced to them that bribery and corruption is the bedrock of his administration.”
