The Chairman of Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service(EKIRS), Mr Olatona Olaniran, has charged motorists in the state to obtain valid documents for their vehicles and ensure compliance with traffic laws.

 

Olaniran gave the charge in Ado-Ekiti on Friday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Ekiti State Council.

 

The EKIRS boss said henceforth, the agency would arrest and prosecute motorists without valid vehicle documents.

 

Olaniran described media professionals as veritable tools for development and urged them to always project the government positively in their reportage.

 

He said that EKIRS was working assiduously to generate more funds the government towards providing more social amenities for the people.

 

”What my agency is making is not enough to meet up with government plans for Ekiti people, hence we need to do more to generate more funds.

 

“It will be double standard for me to bend the rules for relevant stakeholders like your union; if any person runs foul of the rules no matter how highly placed such person might be, he/she will pay for it,” he said.

 

While assuring the people of friendly environment for doing business in the state, Olaniran said the agency’s charges are moderate.

 

He called on individuals and corporate bodies to pay the necessary charges as and when due for them to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

 

He assured the union of cordial working relationship towards boosting the revenue of the state.

 

Earlier, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council, Kayode Babatuyi, commended the leadership of Service for increasing the Internally Generated Revenue of the state.

 

Babatuyi advised the agency to upscale its enlightenment on tax payment, land use charge and other relevant laws that would make the state more viable financially.

 

He pledged the union’s support for the agency in the area of awareness.
