Grade A Customary Court, Oja Oba, Mapo,  Ibadan,  Oyo State,  has dissolved the eight-year-old wedlock between a couple, Muibat Lawal and Abdul Lawal, on the grounds of irresponsibility, troublesomeness, lack of love, public assault by the latter against the former.

Muibat who dragged her husband to court, stated that they met on Facebook and went into a relationship which led to marriage.

The plaintiff stated that she realised a few months after they got married that the defendant never loved her.

According to Muibat,  Abdul was selfish and never willing to make any sacrifice on her behalf and even their children when they started having them.

She also stated that he was miserly and as such refused to be up to his responsibilities towards her and their children.

Muibat mentioned that Abdul scarcely gave her and their children feeding allowance.

As a result,  their children looked underfed at all times.

She also said that he was indifferent to their  education and contributed nothing towards their educational advancement.

Muibat added that he always assaulted her physically anytime she challenged him to be up to the task in the home.

The plaintiff added that the defendant was troublesome and was always at loggerhead with co-tenants in thier compound and people in the neighbourhood  thus giving their family a bad name.

Muibat further stated Abdul treated her with scorn even in the public.

The plaintiff said the defendant did not trust her and regularly accused her of adultery.

According to her, he once slapped and molested her in the public.

The plaintiff told the court she has had enough of her husband’s atrocities and therefore prayed that their marriage be dissolved.

She pleaded for the custody of their children and requested for an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from threatening and interfering with her private life.

Abdul pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him, but consented to divorce.

Muibat in her testimony said, “I met my husband on Facebook and we became friends.

“Our relationship grew from that of mere friendship to lovers.

“We decided to go into marriage about eight years ago, and then my life fell apart.

“Abdul hid his true nature from me while we were dating and I fell into his trap.

“My husband started showing how irresponsible he was from the early days of our marriage.

“He is selfish and never willing to be committed to responsibilities which required spending of

of money.

“He always left these for me to handle.

“My husband never considered our children’s feeding as important, not to mention clothing.

“He distant himself from all that has to do with their education, not bothering if they would be able to compete fairly well with their  mates in the nearest future.

“I spend the proceeds from my business running our home so that our children would not suffer, but my husband never showed any appreciation for all my efforts.

“Anytime I got fed up and I complained of  my husband’s lackadaisical attitude towards my welfare and that of our children, he would flare up and beat me to a pulp.

“Abdul is troublesome and unfriendly. He has on many occasions disgraced me and our children  due to his unfriendly nature.

“Abdul on regular occasions picks quarell with one person or another in our compound or thr neighbourhood and would fight with them.

“My husband suddenly started accusing  me of infidelity without giving me proofs to back his allegation.

“Abdul not only beat me at home, but also in the public.

“He went irate one day and slapped me  outside our home and would have injured me if the people close to the scene had not rushed to the scene to rescue me from his hands.

“My lord, I do not love my husband any longer.

“I tired of his maltreatment of me and our children.

“I pray that you dissolve our marriage so that I can pick up the pieces of my life.

“I again appeal to this honourable court to grant me custody of our children,  but make him responsible for their welfare, giving importance to their feeding  education and health care.

“I finally beg the court to restrain him from threatening me and interfering with my private life.”

Abdul in response said,  “My lord, my wife is a liar. All she said is false.

“I agree that our marriage be dissolved, I likewise no longer derive joy in it.

“I have never beaten my wife.

“My lord, I am ready to give our two children N15, 000 per month as feeding allowance and also be responsible for their education.”

Giving judgement, the court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo stated that it was glaring that both parties by their conduct and the evidence given are no longer interested in their marriage and have been living separately.

She added that since both consented to divorced it was best that they go their different ways.

Giving her judgement, Akintayo dissolve their union and granted custody of their children to the plaintiff.

She mandated the defendant to be in charge of their upkeep and give priority to their education and health care.

She further restrained him from threatening or interfering with her private life.
