Grade A Customary Court, Oja Oba, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has heard the evidence of a man, Taju Alani who dragged his wife, Fola  Alani to court on the grounds of religious difference.

Taju in his divorce suit prayed the court to stop his relationship with his wife because they were no longer compatible.

According to him, he could no longer tolerate the level of religious intolerance displayed by his wife.

The plaintiff stated that their marriage was blessed with two children, but begged for the custody of the younger child, while promising to be responsible for the welfare of both children.

Fola though served court summonses was not in court.

Taju in his testimony said, “I met my wife while I was a Christian. She moved into my house after we dated for a few months.

“My wife and I got along well in our marriage and we were at peace.

“Unfortunately, this peace gradually deserted our home after my decision of changing from being a Christian to a Muslim.

“She vowed never to join me in my new faith and remained adamant despite the several attempts I made in making her change her mind.

“Fola who was once loving and caring suddenly turned hostile and intolerant.

“The warmth in our relationship disappeared and our home became too cold for comfort.

“My wife frowns at the sight of me carrying out the normal Islamic rites and will always condemn me.

“Fola has stopped carrying out some of her responsibilities towards me and my patience is gradually running out.

“My lord, the strain in our relationship is already taking its toll on our children’s wellbeing which is not pleasing to me.

“I pray the court to put a stop to our relationship before things get out of hand.

“I also beseech the court to put our second child in my care, while the elder can be with my wife.

“I will be responsible for the feeding and education of both.”

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo adjourned the case.
