A lawn tennis court project worth N22 million constructed at the Fountain University premises by the National Youths wing of NASFAT was at the weekend commissioned by the Board Of Trustees Chairman of the body, Dr. Abdul Lateef Wale Olasupo with a determination that, the project would promote sporting activities in the university.
Speaking at the commissioning, the BOT Chairman commended the facilitators of the lawn tennis court establishment expressing that, the game would go a long way in giving the institution a good reputations in sports.
He stressed that,the game would further make the school, an outstanding one among other sister universities in the country.
In his own speech at the occasion,,the national youth President of NASFAT, Mr. kabiri Raji said, “this sporting facility is going to be very important to the development of our students. When you come to the university, is not just about the academics alone, we also need time for sports, need time for leisure need, need time to build yourself. So, having sports facilities like this in the institution Is very Germane.
“When you talk about sports,you talk about the youths and there is no way you can separate the youths from sports, so we believe,having a lawn tennis in this school is going to improve the quality of the students and is also going to improve their participations in sports.
“First of all, you know this is a private university and we are being faced by different challenges because,we don’t have full supports of the government like that of the ones being owned by them in terms of funding,so improving in the sporting activities of the school will give attractions to other schools to be able to associate with this school as a private university in Sports. “
” It will also afford the school the opportunity to participate in private universities games across the country. We have university that still looks up to fountain university but, we wish to make it a second to none, in terms of sporting activities. Just,last year, we commissioned our basket ball court and now, we have a lawn tennis court and,we will better improve on some other indoor games sporting facilities that are already been established in the school. We need to improve on this because, by the time we improve on it, we will also attract schools and other stakeholders. The national youths of NASFAT are behind all these, to contribute to their owned university which is “Fountain”.
In his own remark, The NASFAT Society President, Mr. Niyi Yusuf, maintained that, “today’s occasion is a handing over of a law tennis court to Fountain University by the NASFAT. Our youths in the society have earlier constructed a basket ball court for the university before the construction of this lawn tennis court being commissioned now. “
” “I commend the group’s efforts on these and without mincing words,our Youths are desorex in physical exercises.They want to be part of sports as a business and, my hope is that,when these facilities would be put to use, it will not be for fountain university students alone but will also be made available for people in the community as a form of existing relationship and bound between them”
