The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced orientation for the implementation of the Community Based Business Training Scheme (CBBTS) for unemployed persons in Ekiti state.
The Director-General of NDE, Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, who spoke during the flag off in Ise-Ekiti, Ise-Orun Local Government Area of the state said that the mandate of NDE which is anchored on making sure that numerous members of the unemployed are gainfully engaged through empowerment on skills acquisition.
Represented by the state coordinator, Sanusi Akeem, the DG said the agency has identified two lines of trade, which are hairdressing; shoe and bag making associated with the community for the youths to be gainfully employed and be financially independent.
He added that the beneficiaries of the program would be exposed to the nitty-gritty of the trades for the next three months in the community by competent trainers.
According to him, NDE has chosen fast-moving businesses in the community which have no off-season for the prospective beneficiaries who are the participants, who are to learn the skills and be gainfully employed.
He said, “On a moral and fatherly note, it is cited that When all has been said, much is to be done and to whom much is given, much is equally expected.
“This I have stated because all the necessary apparatus and arrangements for a successful launch and implementation of the CBBTS has been made available by the Directorate and that Ise-Ekiti should count herself fortunate to be picked for this maiden scheme out of other equally deserving communities.
“Thus, the onus is on you to play your part by showing the passion, focus, perseverance and humility that is required to complement the efforts of the Directorate since it takes two to tango.”
