The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has said that the nationwide protest against recent fuel pump price hike, increase in tuition fees in public schools and withheld salaries of lecturers and workers in the universities slated on August 2, will commence hold by 7:30am Abuja and across the States for the Federation.

NLC Head of Information, Comrade Benson Upah, told journalists that workers and civl society organisations will converged at the Unity Fountain Abuja, to kickstart the protest while the State chapters will equally commence protest at the same time. He added that the eyes of the International community is on the Federal government to see how they truly treat their citizens

He went on to say that all the affiliate unions of the NLC thought their State branches, have mobilized their members and are already for the protest. Appropriate security agencies have also been notified and are expected to provide security for Nigerians during the protest. He added.

Meanwhile, the Congress took to its Twitter handle to reiterate its readiness for the street action, saying; “Tomorrow End, Nationwide our voice must be heard. Other posts of the Congress reads; “So there is no plan to revive our refineries or to build a new one? That means the poor would be left to suffocate with a monopolized refinery and ever increasing price of petrol.

The Head of Information also said; “We have consolidated on our arrangement and the fillers we are getting is that Nigerians are ready to be on the street to express their feelings and outrage over the harsh economic situation in the country.”
