Politics is an age long phenomenon which we came to meet on earth with successive people practising it. Some have used politics to make people great while some have used it to mar their fellow human beings. . Those who embarked on human capacity building and infrastructural development will never be forgotten in the annals of history. Till today, we do not find it difficult to remember the likes of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Late Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu etc, for the good legacies which everyone should be wishing to emulate and achieve. This simply tells us that whatever we do today will speak for us tomorrow.
Man is ascribed to a political and gregarious living thing which precludes the fact that we cannot do without politics. Aristotle (384-322 BC) asserted that politics is a natural tendency of human beings which cannot be avoided. Karl W. Duetch said further that “Politics is a decision-making through public facilities”. Considering the views of these two scholars and others, it will be justifiable to premise the investment of Dr. Ojumu into politics and his service to humanity as necessary efforts so as to be part and parcel of the legislative processes that will bring desired dividends of democracy to the good people of Oriade /Obokun Federal Constituency.
As a matter of fact, Dr. Desmond Oludare Ojumu is one of the people who have taken it upon themselves to invest heavily in humanity and politics in our clime. Permit me to go ecclesiastical at this juncture. In the year 2018 when Governor Isiaka Oyetola was jostling for his first term in office, Dr. Ojumu participated in no small measure as a true progressive and loyal party man. Thousands of caps, t-shirts and posters were made. Also, billboards were erected in towns and cities across State of Osun. Different jingles were produced which were aired in different radio and television stations. All these were done to promote, mobilize and sensitize the electorate on the need to vote wisely. At the end of the day, victory was recorded-the Will of God came to reality. History is about to repeat itself this year as we go to polls come July 16, 2022 and victory is certain for Governor Oyetola and his deputy, Mr. Benedict Alabi.
Dr. Desmond Ojumu in his idiosyncracy loves human capital development and to invest in humanity. Most politicians go back to their steads after their hope of clinching party ticket is dashed. Some will return after four years to show aspiration again while some don’t bother themselves to return. But, in the case of Dr. Desmond Ojumu, the story is quite different. After loosing the bid to clinch APC Senate ticket for Osun East Senatorial District, Ife/Ijesa, in the last election, the oil and gas magnate did not give up the good works which he is known for. With or without political office, he believes his passion to contribute to humanity must not stop. Dr. Ojumu has been making himself available at his country home, Ijebu-Jesa to attend to people who come for one assistance or the other across Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency.
In the same vein, Dr. Ojumu through his Foundation which he created in 2015, has been empowering youths, women and giving scholarships to indigent students. Artisans and traders are not left out in the scheme of things The Foundation, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility has been meeting the needs of communities in order to make lives more meaningful.
In conclusion, the leading House of Representatives aspirant, Dr. Desmond Ojumu has maintained a very good profile before the top echelon of the party and his relationship with the masses is cordial and impressive.
