Amidst furore generated by a letter soliciting funds on his behalf towards his forthcoming wedding to a Kano princess, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has disclosed plans to build shelter for orphans, children with disabilities, and those with special needs.

A statement by the press secretary to the monarch, Alli Ibraheem, on Saturday said Oluwo disclosed the plan while interacting with widows, vulnerable children, and orphans who he feeds twice a week in his palace.

The statement read in part, “Promoting the ability in the vulnerable, motherless and disabled children is key to ensure the stigmatized are brought to the front line of decision making, opinion building and resources allocation.

“To achieve this, all stakeholders, most especially those with financial wherewithal, are encouraged to lift these children and provide a friendly environment devoid of marginalisation, stigmatisation and hunger.

“Creating such an environment is the responsibility of you and I in our respective little and big capacity. As I host the orphans, children of special needs, disables and others in the category of the less privileged, I’m touched the most with their disposition and ready to devise a means to build shelter for them in my country home, Iwo.

“I’m planning to build a shelter for them and a float skill acquisition centre. The shelter will be an assemblage of orphans, children of mad women, vulnerable and special needs.”
