Nigerian artiste, Kiss Daniel’s new single “Shu Peru” has stirred up mixed reactions since its release on May 12th, 2023.

While some fans have praised the song for its high-energy afrobeat vibe and catchy lyrics, others have taken issue with its simplistic and repetitive chorus.

The song also features the artiste’s signature smooth vocals and upbeat instrumentation.

Several Twitter users have pointed out that the chorus of the song repeatedly uses the phrase “shu peru,” which is a slang popularized by Orezi with his hit record and hints at Kiss Daniel’s lack of creativity for a new song title.

They argue that another popular yet controversial artiste, Speed Darlington, must have co-written the song.

@iamkeyzeeto tweeted, “Abi shey na speed Darlington write this shu peru for kizz daniel ni?”

Twitter users have been particularly vocal in their criticism of the song, with some expressing disappointment in Kiss Daniel’s perceived lack of versatility in its lyrics.

One user, @Rapzyrita1, wrote, “Can’t believe this is the same Kizz Daniel that dropped Sin City, Laye and so many other lyrics-filled songs now dropping childish songs all in the name of hits.”

“@d_re_y” tweeted, “ARREST KIZZ DANIEL!!! He can’t keep getting away with this!” while “@adetomiiwa,” wrote, “Kizz Daniel isn’t close to anything called ‘Versatility’. I’M SORRY”.

Despite the negative reactions, some fans of Kiss Daniel have defended the song, arguing that it is meant to be a fun and lighthearted dance track.

They have also pointed out that other popular songs in the Afrobeat genre contain similar lyrics and themes.

As the debate continues to rage on social media, it remains to be seen how Kiss Daniel will respond to the criticism.

However, some industry insiders predict that the artist may address the controversy in an upcoming interview or statement.

In the meantime, fans and critics alike continue to share their opinions on the divisive new release.
