Five political parties’ candidates contesting for Osun state governorship seat on Thursday slugged it out to sell themselves as the best option for the electorate ahead 2022 election slated for July 16th.

The candidates; Akin Ogunbiyi of Accord party, Adegboyega Oyetola of All Progressives Congress(APC), Lasun Yusuf of Labour Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), and Goke Omigbodun of Social Democratic Party (SDP) partook in the debate organised by BBC Yoruba held at Aurora Event center, Osogbo and monitored by Nationnewslead.

Ogunbiyi promised to change the economic drive of the state by prioritising Agriculture and youth employment instead of waiting for Federal Government allocation to run the affairs of the state.

“The current government has not prioritised Agricultural sector which is evident in the current budget of the state. N7billion was earmarked for Agric, this is insignificant to cater for the development of the sector especially to engage youths who are not employed in the state. Challenges of unemployment must be taken seriously.”

Oyetola answering questions disclosed that his administration will perform more if elected for second term in office, meanwhile, he added that despite the paucity of fund, welfare of civil servants and infrastructure development are well taken care of.

“The helicopter owned by Osun State for security surveillance is undergoing repair but the challenge we have is that the amount we will use to repair it can buy new one, so we are in the dilemma to take decision on this.”

Candidate of Labour Party, Yusuf said, “All the candidates contesting for the governorship seat are just theoretically about their knowledge of Agricultural sector because they are not practising farmer. I am a farmer, I have three farms in the state which are on over 2000 hectares of land.

“I am the most experienced candidate of all of those contesting for this seat because I served the nation as deputy speaker House of Representatives. If elected, I will lend women in the state N9 billion to promote economy.”

Adeleke affirmed that dancing is his hobby and if elected he will dance in galore during his administration which will not affect good governance.

“Suffering is too much in the state and 2022 is the time we should attend to good governance through agriculture and improve security architecture of the state. Vote for me, I will be answered prayer to the yearning of the Osun people.”

However, Omigbodun disagreed with all the candidates stressing that none of them have a working manifesto that they will work with if elected. He urged elites in the state to come out to vote in the forthcoming poll.

He said, “Although, Opon Imon designed by the previous government of Rauf Aregbesola may have its shortcomings but it is very advantageous to education of students in the state. If elected, I will repackage Opon Imon for school children.” Continue Reading
