The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday expressed strong support for the choice of former Senate spokesperson, Senator Ajibola Basiru, as the National Secretary of the APC.

The party’s executive officers, during a marathon meeting at its Secretariat in Osogbo, unanimously passed a vote of confidence on his suitability for the position, ahead of his ratification by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).

The state chairman of the party, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, issued a statement through the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, affirming that Senator Ajibola Basiru possesses all the qualities needed to perform optimally as the National Secretary of the party.

Lawal highlighted Senator Basiru’s superlative performance in the Senate, where he served as the Senate spokesperson and effectively represented the interests of the Senate.

Lawal further emphasized that Senator Basiru’s experience in both private and public offices, including as a lawyer, a commissioner, a lecturer, and a distinguished Senator, would fortify him to excel as the National Secretary of the APC.

The party chairman also pointed out that Senator Basiru is the choice of everyone in the APC in Osun State, given his successful management of elections in 10 different states and his deep knowledge of the law and legal profession interconnectivity within and outside Nigeria.

In Lawal’s words: “We have looked right, left, and centre, and we, in the state chapter of our party, have settled for the choice of Senator Ajibola Basiru as the next National Secretary of our great party.

The lawyer-politician is a tested and trusted hand whose oratory endowment coupled with efficient delivery of contents in any difficult situation has towered him above his peers.

It will, however, not be an overstatement to describe Senator Basiru as an independent-minded personality, but it is also to his credit that he is an unrepentant team player whose contributions had positively impacted our party in Osun State.

It is for all these reasons that we are pleading with the NEC of our party to make the ratification of Senator Basiru as the National Secretary of our party a done deal at its formal meeting holding on Thursday,” the state APC chairman stated.
