The Osun State Government has issued a warning to commercial tricycle operators in the state, emphasising the need for valid documentation to support their operations.
The government’s action comes in response to reports linking some tricycle operators to criminal activities in the state.
Unregistered tricycles will no longer be permitted to operate in Osun State. Those found using tricycles lacking proper documentation will be held accountable for committing traffic offences.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Yakubu Adejare, stressed the importance of obtaining the necessary documents, including hackney permits, roadworthiness certificates, and vehicle licences, before operating tricycles in the state.
According to Adejare, “We have recently discovered that a lot of tricycle operators in Osun State are on the roads without necessary documents. It is regarded as a traffic offence henceforth.”
In addition, he stated, “Tricycles are being used to perpetrate evil by men of the underworld; any operator that refuses to get the particulars will henceforth be regarded as an agent of evil.”
