Movement will be restricted around the eight polling units in Oluyole and Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East federal constituencies where supplementary elections will be held in Oyo State, on Saturday.
The leading candidates from the February 25 elections in Oluyole are Honourable Tolu Akande-Sadipe of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Mr Mojeed Mogbonjubola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while the top two in Ibadan North-East/South-East are Honourable Abass Adigun of PDP and Honourable Dapo Lam-Adesina of the APC.
The battle in the affected polling units in Oluyole will be for the votes of 2,869 persons who have collected their PVCs while in Ibadan North-East/South-East, Adigun and Lam-Adesina will seek to have a sizeable portion of the 2,381 eligible voters with PVCs.
While the affected polling units in Oluyole are Abbey Technical and IDC School, Olurinde, those affected in Ibadan North East/South East are Ile Aborisade Compound; Atipe Junction; Government Secondary School, Orita-Aperin; CAC Grammar School, Oniyere 1; Queen of Apostle Oluyoro III; and Falana Mobil Station II.
Election in some of the affected polling units had been declared inconclusive over issues of number of collected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in some units, where elections were held or canceled, exceeding the margin between the two leading candidates.
In some other polling units, there were issues relating to malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
In a media release on Thursday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oyo State, Dr Adeniran Tella asserted the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a smooth conduct of Saturday’s elections, assuring that security agents have promised adequate security in the affected polling units.
Tella enjoined the electorate in the affected polling units to come out enmasse to vote, from 8.30am to 2.30pm.
Meanwhile, the leaderships of the APC and PDP are upbeat about victory of their candidates.
While the leadership of the Oyo APC urged voters to honour the president-elect, Senator Bola Tinubu by voting its candidates, the Oyo PDP said it defeated the APC in the two federal constituencies in the governorship election with a wide margin, a feat it will repeat in Saturday’s supplementary elections.
