The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, kwara State, on Friday, impounded a 33,000-litre fuel tanker being used to siphon fuel from a pipeline of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation in Kwara State.

The loaded tanker was allegedly impounded by a patrol team of the NSCDC at Laduba village near Afon in the Asa Local Government Area of the state in the wee hours of Friday.

The vandals were reportedly seen siphoning fuel from the pipeline in the bush around 1am.

On sighting the NSCDC team, the hoodlums reportedly fled into the bush, while their vehicle, which fell into a ditch, was impounded.

The Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Kwara State, Babawale Afolabi, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said efforts were being made to arrest the fleeing suspects.

He said, “The 33,000-litre truck containing Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, fell on the ground while they were trying to escape.

“The NSCDC commandant in Kwara State, Makinde Iskil, said the fleeing suspects would soon be tracked down, apprehended and prosecuted.”
