Police arrest 76 suspected criminals during Eid celebrations in Plateau

Plateau State Police Command has arrested 76 suspected criminals with dangerous weapons and illicit substances at different locations in the state during the just concluded Sallah celebration.

Addressing newsmen in Jos, Plateau State on Friday, the State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet said the suspected criminals were picked up during the Sallah celebration and the following exhibits were recovered from them: 14 machetes, 8 daggers, large quantity not dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 6 tricycles, 4 motorcycles and a bottle containing illicit substances.

The State Commissioner of Police who said all the suspects are undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court soonest added that the clampdown was in line with the promise he made that criminal activities will be tamed and will be a thing of the past.

According to him, to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration, the State Police Command strategically deployed to all praying grounds, and vulnerable locations and efficient motorised patrols put in place all over the state adding that strategy paid off as the Eid-El-Fitr celebration in the state was peaceful and devoid of any rancour or attack on worshippers.

He further disclosed that the command equally arrested two notorious armed robbery suspects with sophisticated weapons through credible intelligence in the Wase local government area of the state.

He explained that the arrest was a sequel to a complaint by one Laulau Jibrin of Zunzugut Mavo came to the Nigeria Police Force, Divisional Headquarters Wase, Wase local government area and reported that some armed men came to his house at the same address and robbed him of his motorcycle.

“On the strength of the above complaint, Police detectives attached to Wase division in collaboration with Vigilantes swung into action and arrested two of the armed robbery suspects through credible intelligence. The suspects are; one Musa Adamu and one Sale Joga both males of the Mavo Community of the Local Government Area.

“Exhibits recovered from them include; one AK-47 rifle loaded with three (3) rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The suspects have been transferred to State CID Jos and are currently undergoing interrogations, and will soon be charged in court,” he said.

Yabanet, therefore, declared that the Command under his watch would not tolerate any form of lawlessness and advised parents and guardians to pay close attention to their children and wards as no law breaker would be spared.
